Romeo and Juliet
Romeo and Juliet are a synonym for love itself. It is a tragedy by William Shakespeare. It is a tale of two teenagers from feuding families; they both fall in love with each other and then marry.
The families of Romeo and Juliet disapprove of the lover’s affection for each other. Romeo was at the risk of being killed if discovered with Juliet. Juliet avoided being married to someone else by taking a tonic that apparently killed her. Their “untimely deaths” ultimately unite their feuding households.
Queen Victoria and Prince Albert
It is the marriage between two first cousins, in 1840, they were both just 20 years old. They were not in love initially, it was an arranged marriage, but gradually the couple developed a deep love for each other and had nine children, four boys and five girls. Alberta dies at the age of 42. Victoria mourned him for the rest of her life.
Cleopatra and Mark Antony
This is one of the most memorable and intriguing love stories of all times. This was also later dramatized by William Shakespeare and is still staged all over the world. They fell in love with one another at first sight.Because of their relationship, the country of Egypt was in powerful position at that time. The Romans were suspicious of the growing powers of Egyptians and their love annoyed Romans.
Despite all the difficulties, Antony and Cleopatra got married. During a battle against Romans, Antony got false news of Cleopatra’s death. He was very shattered and fell on his sword. When
Cleopatra laws informed about Antony’s death, she was shocked. And she took her own life. This was a tragic end to their love story with great sacrifices.
Tristan and Isolde
Their love story is told through various stories and manuscripts. It is the story of medieval times during the reign of King Arthur. Isolde is the daughter of the King of Ireland. She got engaged with the King Mark of Cornwall. King Mark sent his nephew, Tristan, to Ireland to escort Isolde back to Cornwall. At this time, Tristan and Isolde fell for each other. Though she was married to Mark of Cornwall, she couldn’t resist falling in love with Tristan. The love affair was carry forwarded. One day King Mark came to know about the affair, he banned Tristan from Cornwall.
Tristan went to Brittany. There he met Iseult of Brittany. There he got attracted to her and married her. But he did not accomplish the marriage because of his true love with Isolde.
After falling ill, he sent for Isolde with a hope that she would cure him, if the returning ship’s sail will be white if she agrees to come and black if she didn’t agree. Iseult, saw the white sails, lied to Tristan and told him that the sails were black. This made Isolde die because of grief. Isolde died soon after of a broken heart.
Adam and Eve
Love stories are a great inspiration for us. Whether they are fact or fiction, everyone loves. There was a beautiful garden full of animals, fruits and trees .made by God. Adam was the first man God made, he asked him to look after the garden and warned him to not to eat fruits from the tree of knowledge. To accompany Adam, God created a female, Eve. Both of them lived naked in the garden. One day they ate fruits from the tree of knowledge, God punished them for this. He asked them to live on earth and said that Adam will have to work hard to grow crops and Eve will have to suffer the pain of giving birth.
St. Valentine
How can the legend story be left out, one of love’s greatest proponents: St. Valentine. Around 270 AD, the Roman empire was facing enemies from all sides, Claudius had a litlle army as the men opted to live a life with their loved ones. Claudius believed the remedy to the problem would be to dissolve this love, and to outlaw marriage. The Catholic priest Valentine was against this. He soon became known as the ‘friend of lovers’, secretly uniting couples in marriage. He was imprisoned by Claudius. The guard ontoAsterius, brought his blind daughter to Valentine in hopes that he would cure her.
Both of them developed a rapturing bond. Before his execution, he was given the chance to write a letter. He wrote a final farewell to his love and penned the now famous signature ‘From Your Valentine’. Valentine became regarded as a saint. In 496 AD, February 14th was declared Valentine’s Day and it became a day dedicated to celebrating lovers.
Beauty and the Beast
The classic fairy tale of Beauty and the Beast, showcased the power of love to transcend appearances and overcome evil. The beautiful Belle used to live with th beast in his castle to save her father’s life. In this time the two became friends. Belle repeatedly rejected the marriage proposals laid by the Beast.
On influence of her sister, she tricked into betraying the Beast. She realized that she loves him and revealed him a handsome prince. intoThe two marry and, of course, live happily ever after.
